David Petroziello has extensive experience as a high level basketball coach which includes stints as an administrator having served as a collegiate Athletic Director as well as a General Manager at the professional level. Born in Quebec City, Canada, Petroziello developed an early love for the game of basketball from his Pennsylvania born and raised father, a former collegiate athlete at Kings College (PA)
Most recently Coach Petroziello was the Head Coach and Athlete Services Coordinator at Keyano College in Alberta, Canada. There he led the Huskies to two consecutive conference tournament appearances, finishing 6th in 2014 and 4th in 2015.
Prior to Keyano, Petroziello was the General Manager and Head Coach for the Toowoomba Basketball Association in Queensland, Australia. There he was Head Coach of a professional women’s team featuring former NCAA Division 1 athletes and Australian professionals. Leading the program to its first victories in over 3 seasons, Coach Petroziello began the process of building a culture of success for the women’s program at the Mountaineers.
In his first overseas experience Petroziello was the General Manager and Head Coach for the Bunbury Basketball Association in the state of Western Australia. There he led the implementation of youth development and coaching programs as well as oversaw the operations for the largest basketball association in the state’s southwest. He also took on the role of Head Coach for the professional team in the area, a team comprised of both import and Australian players.
In 2008-2009 Petroziello was the General Manager and Head Coach for the Vancouver Titans professional team, located in Vancouver, British Columbia. As an IBL expansion team, Petroziello led every facet of the team’s development and was instrumental to its success on and off the floor. The Titans finished with an 11-14 record and a first round playoff appearance featuring a lineup largely made up of Canadian players.
While leading the Titans, Coach Petroziello was also an Assistant Coach at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Petroziello also took time off to spend 6 weeks in India over December 2008 and January 2009. There at the invitation of the Punjab Basketball Association and the President of the Basketball Federation of India, Coach Petroziello worked with national team athletes as well as youth players as part of a month-long development camp. He was also tasked with coaching coaches, and was accompanied during the camp by a number of respected Indian coaches. Over his time there he delivered satellite clinics in a number of cities as well as a lecture and clinic at the National Sports Institute of India (Patiala), where he met and worked with the future master coaches of Indian basketball.
Petroziello is a graduate of Bishop’s University with an Honors Degree in Political Studies with a Minor in Public Policy and Public Administration. He attended Graduate School for a Master’s Degree in Political Science with a focus on International Political Economy at Simon Fraser University. He is a fully certified Level 3 coach of the Nationa Coaching Certification Program (Canada). He has twice been awarded Conference Coach of the Year Awards, and his teams have 85% playoff participation rate over the course of his career.
